If you were going by yourself, I doubt the school will care. If you have a date it'd be a lousy thing to do to cancel this late but not for the school, it's not like a very small party where people will be stuck with loads of leftovers.

Only if you're going stag. If you have a date, by all means, you have to go unless you're dying.
Be nice if you have a date and consider your date's feelings. No one wants to be let down on prom night. Think about it. go to prom and have a wonderful time.

Tell whom? Your date? You should tell your date now, so that if there are any limo arrangements, etc, s/he has time to cancel. It's not right to cost someone extra money by waiting to share your decision.
As for telling your school/organizers? You've already bought your ticket, they really don't care if you attend or not. You have no obligation to tell them one way or another, unless there's some other arrangement you haven't mentioned.

Please mail your ticket to Cindy P, 1356 Brooklyn Ave., Lancaster PA, 13456, so that I may attend in your place. I'm 36 and prolly might stand out a little, but I loved my prom, and esp. the free dinner....Why in heavens name don't you want to go?? You might regret it...you should go, if it sucks, you can leave early....otherwise, mail your ticket to me so it can go to good use!!

Quite honestly, the school does not care if you attend or not. You should tell your date/friends ASAP!

Abfabmom has it right. You won't be missed. At least not by the school.

Do you have to give notice, or are you wanting a refund? I say suck it up and stay home.

Not at all...as long as you've purchased your ticket, chances are they don't otherwise care.
