Why can't I find a medication that works I have tried .. lexapro, zoloft.. paxil ( 1 day) welbutrin and welbutrin XL, Luvox.. I am 15.. but my problem is when the medication starts working it seems like my body shuts off.. and doesn't work anymore.. I don't know what else to try.. has that happened to anyone else? My doctor doesn't know.. she just says.. try this one.. and suggestions?

yeah.. I have depression. yeah exercise helps but it won't cure me.. doing stuff that will help yes but its not getting me anywhere.. and its not like I want to have depression.. I don't think anyone would..

one of the most important factor in getting medication is that u have to believe that it'll will cure you. if u don't believe in that particular medicine's effectiveness, then it won't do much for you. your body won't accept that medication.
sometimes, when we really believe that the medication that we take will make us better, the we will really gets better. this is shown in people who insists to get an injection from their doctor for their specific complaint, while there's not necessary for that injection. then the dr will put some normal saline and inject them. then, they immediately feel better because they believe that they have been given medication, but the truth is that they only get an injection of normal solution. =)
so, try to have more faith in your medication. it might helps your body to cooperate with the medication and u'll get better.

It does take a while sometimes to find the right one. I personally have great luck with Prozac, and some people I know have had good luck with Effexor. Be sure to stay on them for at least a month...
However, keep in mind that you're still going to have ups and downs...it doesn't make you NOT have bad days, or times when you feel like a loser. For me, it just helps a bad day or two not turn into a bad month or two.
Try seeing a therapist, also. If you can't do that, at least keep a journal, and maybe read a book on cognitive therapy (it helped me. A LOT. It just makes you shift your perspective a little.) Exercise is not bad, either.
Hope you feel better soon. Depression really sucks, but it can get better.

A comment that was posted earlier about how medication should be used in conjunction with other interventions is very true. anti-depressant medication is not a wonder pill. Counselling is a better route to go down, especially with a trained cognitive-behavioural therapist to understand reasons you are feeling depressed so you can come to an understanding of why you are deprssed so you can change your thoughts, behaviours and feelings to being postive. CBT has been proven to work unlike other alternative therapies that could be suggested which have little scientific research to support them.
If you are from the UK then the first antidepressent you should have been offered is flouxetine(prozac), but this should only be in addition to psychological therapy. such as the CBT i described above this is supported by NICE(2005)

Well you know when you are on those type of medications, at first when they start working , sometimes your body will shut off. It takes a while for your body to get use to the medication that you are putting into it. After a while, your body will feel normal again, and if the medication is working then your all set. You got to remember that your body needs to get use to the medications you are trying. Sometimes it takes a while, and your doctor should of known that too.

I agree with both Angela and fireglo
Find out what is causing your depression and deal with it. Try meditation and Yoga.
Also try exercising every day to increase your endorphins.
Anti-depressants make you so you just don't care. When you stop taking them the issue that made you depressed will still be there to deal with. So it is a deal with it now or deal with it later thing.
They are also addictive. You can't go off them cold turkey, you need to gradually cut back.
Take some time to figure out where you are in life, what you want, what you are happy with, what you want to change. LIFE is for LIVING, not being drugged up. You are so young, you have your whole life ahead of you! GO GET IT!!!

You should first consider your situation:
Do you need the medication because you're brain is NATURALLY off-balance in the emotions department, or is it because of your environment?
I don't like anti-depressants...everyone I've ever known who was on them became a totally different person over the years because of them. Make sure it's not just your environment and the people around you that make you think you need the meds, because if that's the case, all you need is a change of scenery and/or a different lifestyle.

I used to take antidepressants when I went through a bad time, and then couldn't understand why I needed them because things changed and had a great life. I wasn't feeling in control. I felt drugged. It took me almost a year to wean off. Then I changed my diet 100% around (it was a special food program) and I feel like a new person. It's really amazing!
Mostly all my symptoms were not even related to depression. I felt bad because I had a horrible diet, and I was anemic! No one even bothered to check, they just gave me drugs! I can't imagine how my health would have deteriorated had I stayed on drugs.

That's the way it is with medications, there isn't one thing that works for every person. Have you tried acupuncture? Massage therapy? Exercises? SAM-e supplement? None of these are drugs, you can't have bad reactions, and a combination of these could be just what you need to feel better. Acupuncture may seem a bit strange, but it is very relaxing, and allows all of your emotions to surface, you will be more aware of what is troubling you, and hopefully, have someone to help you deal with those issues. You don't have to do it alone, and you don't have to take medications to feel better. Please, look in to these alternative to your care, and please do not allow yourself to suffer needlessly. Effexor XR has really helped me more than any other medication. Maybe you could try another doctor for another opinion. Make sure you give a medication enough time and don't come off quickly or on your own.
I wish you luck, I know it's tuff.

I went through all that. It sucks! The only thing that I could tolerate was the herb, St. John's Wort. You can buy it at most CVS/Walgreens, etc. Research it. It really works with few side effects. One of the side effects is making birth control fail. I just use condoms as backup.
