biomass actually begins and ends with microorganisms.
without them, there wouldn't be a plant on this planet.
But as ZenWoman said, none are more important than the other, because one provides necessities for the other's survival.
this is how all life co-evolves, the foundation of the Giai hypothesis.

Not entirely, both interact with each other
many animals are agents of flora
e.g.
Squirrels plant trees so do birds
insects pollinate and provide sugars which get washed into the soil which makes it richer for the plants ,so does animal manure
elephants and pigs clear ground for new growth
giraffes and antelopes and herbivores in general trim the leaves and grasses, and disperse many seeds
the flora is the food and shelter for many animals
the flora provides the environment for insects ,which are the beginning of the food chain for many animals
but you are right the biomass is the base of life and it creates the climate and precipitation (rain, humidity ,condensation, evaporation ,)
groundwater supply from the excess water secreted by roots which make the rivers flow all year round
but without animals there would be a marked difference ,much less bio diversity and plants would not be able to spread in the same way
An Eco system is a partnership of both Flora & Fauna, and with out micro organisms the bottom of the animal & insect ladder there would not be decomposition and with out that ,there would be no soil and with out that ,there would not be any plants ,apart from the ones that lived in the water or Air.

God created this symbiotic relationship when He made animals a day after He made plants, the plants lived a day off the CO2 generated from the Big Bang. Where would plants get their CO2 if not from animals, and what would animals aspire if plants didnot balance the O2/CO2 how would man be able breath if He had not waited a day more to create man after the balance had been stabalized?.IN OTHER WORDS .. Biomass begins with God, not plants!

Using that logic, the PLANTS should 'rule the world' and we, the humans at the 'top' of the food chain should 'worship and adore them' ... but that isn't going to 'work' in reality, because the plants don't have 'minds' and can't actually do any 'ruling' ... and people are 'omnivorous' and need to eat plant matter to survive. I'm sorry, but the 'main point' of thinking about the terms 'biomass' and 'ecology' and 'global warming' is BALANCE, not 'which species should rule' our planet. I really love the old Communist/Socialist decree ... From each according to what he can give, to each according to what he needs. While I don't think that would work in economics, it surely does work for 'ecology' ...

Well, in all honesty, that's probably the most interesting thing i've read in a long time! ...Maybe you should be a writer. I'm serious. I'm just 24 years old, and I can tell that your thought processes and ability to convey your feelings through writing are way better than most people! It sounds like you've just entered a period of self-reflection. From what you've written, it appears that you know what you like, what you want, and have a desire to acheive those things, but you don't know how you can fit your goals and dreams into the environment that immediately surrounds you....Or, you don't know how to get those things FROM the environment that immediately surrounds you. I've always felt that introspective people are interesting, because they are very honest to themselves and others, and their views are logical and rational. Maybe you should continue to be the way you are, and let the world change around you a little bit. Who knows what will happen tomorrow! I don't think you're losing touch with reality.

Yes, your statement is correct, however, with eons of evolution plants and other living things have now a symbiotic relationship. There are even some plants which have seeds that have to go through the intestines of birds in order to germinate. We all depend on each other, plants and animals. Therefore, not one is more important than the other although I think if people died off the planet would go on just fine, maybe better.

This is like asking which came first the chicken or the egg.
All plants produce seeds (flora) which grow from fauna.
They are both important.

This is incorrect as minerals compose the first kingdom and flora (plants) are primarily dependent upon this resource. In actuality they all harmonize, except for the fourth, humans, (basic four kingdoms), to the ecology and regional biospheres.

Yes.
I have heard it said that all animals are ultimately parasites on the plants.
