How do you live next door to a huge dog?

This dog is kept in a conservatory - this is its kennel. We live in terraced houses & the owner + dog moved in Christmas 2005. It is a total nightmare living next door to this neighbour - she has no respect for me or her dog who she often leaves for 10 hours. The conservatory doors are left open and the dog wanders the garden. She sprays potpourii in the conservatory and the combination of that and stale sweat from the dog is revolting. I have tried involving the Council but I came up with a 'smartie' who tried to pull my statement apart instead of trying to solve the problem.

Are there any rules regarding keeping animals to the point of upsetting neighbours?

This can't be a normal situation surely.

I can't go in my garden to sit and enjoy because it just about chokes me after a couple of minutes. I can't hang my washing out because I think that will smell as well.

And how can I sell with above legacy?

first of all i do not know where you live, but i had a nieghbor like that, i made friends with the dog and bath him, but the neighbor was allowing the dog out in a fenced yard and he had plenty of food and water, although the owner was very inconsiderate of his neighbors, the owner did have to work, and the dog although very big was very nice to have around.

You can call the A S P C A, but they might take her dog away. When you say council do you mean tenants council or city council, you may have to go to your local representatives to get the job done. If she's leaving the dog for 10 hours at a time who feeds the dog, gives the dog water, who walks the dog? This might fall under the cruelty to animals act. If the council doesn't work try you senator's or mayor's office. Good luck.

Wow. You have my sympathy. My daughter has a neighbor with a pit bull dog that hangs over the fence between their houses and scares the daylights out of me. I refuse to let the little ones go out to play when he is out. The smell can be very hard to stomach. Check with local authorities about you rights on property and also with the health department. The humane society may have some help if approached with the conditions the dog is in as the smell and left alone for long amounts of time. Good Luck.

It sounds to me like the problem has more to do with your hyper sensitive sense of smell than anything else. You didn't even make the #1 complaint that most people have with dogs, which is the sound of barking. You didn't complain about droppings. You did not say you were afraid of being bitten. But you did complain about the potpourri. Honestly, I think this is about your overactive sense of smell and not about the dog at all.

i recognize you'll hate this answer, yet the following is going (and keep in mind, that's coming from someone who became once petrified of massive dogs!): furnish to take the dogs for walks on a daily basis. This sounds more like animal abuse on her part because she doesn't have respect for it and leaves it for hours at a time. You should tell your local pound or if you have animal cops or anything,... they can handle it than.
