Hi, I am a nurse working in the NHS; is it possible for me to lease a car and have the payments taken either directly from my wages or from my bank account on a direct debit basis ?
Any answers would be of great help, thank you !

Yes most car firms would let you have a car providing you have a credit history that they can check out.

I'm sure they'd be happy to auto debit your account for the payments.

However, I generally recommend not doing that. That gives others power over your account. So what happens if after it's paid off or sold if they keep auto debiting? Or what if they make a mistake and do twice in one month, or for too much, or when you don't have enough funds.

No, the better way is to online bill pay for your account, and set up an automatic payment on your end. That way, you can cancel it at any time if you sell the car, or have paid it off, or just don't have the funds. You can always make the payment later and reset the payment schedule again when you do.

I do this with my monthly mortgage payment. This way, I know it's going to get done, but I keep ultimate control of it.

I also don't think it is a good idea to auto debit out of your account. That just puts there hand in your account. What if you switch banks and then your account will be in default? That would not be a good way to start out a good career in the medical field. But you have good job and shouldn't have any problems getting a lease. But BE VERY CAREFUL with a lease, the mile are very expensive when you go over the allotted amount. And they charge for what they deem excessive scratches and wear on the vehicle.

Yes, but be careful. My husband had his loan set up on a direct debit when he was in the military. Well after he got out they weren't able to do the direct debit thing and they refused to take any payments other than the full payoff at once. So he had to tell them to take it back, now he has a repo on his credit.
