Somebody can go to Jail for having 4 wives but nothing will happen if he has 1 wife and 3 girlfriends.

At least a polygamist will take responsibility for the children produced through marriage of multiple wives.

While adultery/fornication is rampant and there is no real enforcement between "consenting adults".

God allowed polygamy to all the people before us.

Man-made laws prohibit it.

actually in some states it is illegal to cheat when you are married. You just have to be able to prove that the person cheated.

I know of a woman (Jill) in Virginia who walked in on her husband (Sam) having sex with her brother's wife (Amy). He was put in jail when the father of the woman pressed charges. The really sad part is that the brother (Tim) went to the jail and paid for his (Sam's) bail because he did not want for people to know what his (Tim's) own wife (Amy) was up to.

Because the attempt to do so is actually political. And we are witnessing the battle of so called "Morals" in a political sense. The phenomenon is often referred to as a pendulum, swinging back and forth. The political winners of the day get to attempt to get their 'agenda' pushed to the front. That's why we have in the USA things coming up about Campaign Finance while wars are being fought with people dying.

Political agendas are often the reason why more important things are not brought up, and Adultery took a turn for the back pages a while back, probably since politicians like Kennedy and Dodd are having "Waitress sandwiches" in the Capitol building. They do it and don't want laws saying that they can't.

Your question is one of semantics. Too many men have trouble paying child support for their progeny from just one wife -- imaging if they had six wives each.

God allowed lots of things, if you believe in God -- giving your daughter away for a gangbang, pimping your wife, marrying twelve-year-olds, killing your own children and concubines, etc. For all this religious philosophizing, trust me -- you are a lot happier and more comfortable with the man-made laws than you would be if everyone was doing what God once "allowed" to happen.

There is a good reason -- a PRACTICAL reason -- why polygamy is illegal today. But as I've found, wisdom and logic are lost on Bible-thumpers.

We live in a taboo culture, and notice in most sectors, they praise those that had many wives, but don't speak of how they become wealthy, that lifestyle alone creates and generates wealth, if people saw how it could benefit. But they will praise Moses for being a wealthy and smart man, yes he was, smart enough to have many wives and children to help and build what they wanted. LOL.

Oh they do! Remember Monica? You haven't heard anything about a movie, or biography have you? That's because; she may be guilty of a crime known as, 'alienation of affection'. It probably wouldn't ever reach a criminal court, but it would certainly end up in a civil suit by Hillary. It is against the law, to profit from a crime. ergo. Hillary would get any revenue!

Think about it...

They don't think it is important anymore. Just like abortion, and taking God out of the schools. Nothing is important. It's too much work to have morals.
**VERY SAD**
