There are prescription diets that can help prevent kidney stones, and can even dissolve them if they are caught early. If your vet says the dog needs surgery this is probably true - stones that are too large to pass are usually too large to dissolve as well. Go forward with the surgery as planned, and make sure to talk to your vet about a kidney health diet after he's recovered. Good luck.

Surgery is needed before blockage occurs - which of course can totally damage the kidneys and kill the dog. Never mind the severe, horrible pain the dog is suffering. IT IS NECESSARY if the Dr. says it is .
Get the surgery, get analysis of the stone.
Diet and lots of water, maybe reverse osmosis water. PLease do *not* use the * Science Diet* unless you use it until another one can be found. or E-Mail me ---- I can give you more information. I have a breed that we do research on because of stones.......
Good luck.
Allopurinal medication.
Please get surgery ASAP for the poor dog's sake.
Plenty of help if you do a search.....
Good luck !!!!

You need to take your pet to the doctor and get a surgery for their removal. Kidney stones are a serious issue. Kidneys are what filters out thongs in your body. With stones in them, they stopp working and your pet may die.

It is interesting that you do not trust the advice of a veterinarian and would seek information from strangers. I'm not a veterinarian, haven't examined your grandmother's dog and would be a fool to make any suggestions. More important is that you would be a fool to listen to me.

Well I'm not sure that dogs have medicine for that. Maybe, ask your vet or call them. Otherwise I am not sure what to do. It could pass into his bladder. My aunt had one and she said it is immediate relief after it passes.
