Not sure if you are meaning screen saver or an actual picture. Here is a simple way to display a picture background when nobody is logged on:
(NOTE: If you mess up the registry, you could make the system unusable. Edit very carefully.)
Start->Run->RegEdit
Locate following key in the left frame:
- My Computer\HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop
When you click on that, on the right frame you should see an entry for:
- Wallpaper
Change this to point to the picture (I've only worked with BitMap pictures) including the full path. In my case, the entry looks like this:
Name Type Data
Wallpaper REG_SZ c:\windows\steelers.bmp
(and a Steeler picture is the default background when nobody is logged on to the system).
If you want to change the default screen saver, this is here also. I don't know off hand how to specify all the configuration info for it other than changing which one to use:
Name Type Data
SCRNSAVE.EXE REG_SZ sspipes.scr
I just use the pipes screen saver. Apparently you don't need to specify the full path (guessing it picks it up directly from the Windows directory).

There are programs that allow you to create these slide shows for the saver, but you can do your own with XP.
Right click your empty desk top and select properties. This box has the different settings for your monitor and sleep modes, etc on the the different tabs. Click the one that says ScreenSaver and in there you can click the drop down arrow in the middle and choose: My Pictures Slideshow, then click the button to the right that says Browse. Navigate to the folder with the pictures you want displayed and then say OKAY. Then say APPLY. If you want, you can also tell it how long to wait before it starts...you may want it sooner or later. It is called a screen saver, in windows xp or vista all you do is put the mouse pointer on your desktop, away from the icons you have and right click. Hit the properties tab and then click the screen saver tab. There are many to choose from. just don't forget to click apply when you are finished.

It is called a screen saver. You can apply one by clicking show desktop on the tool bar, then right click anywhere on the screen and click properties. Click on the "Screen Saver" tab and choose a screen saver and how long the computer has to be idle for the screen saver to show by clicking "settings". And now you know. :)

Yes you can, providing you have a graphics card that supports it. Most modern graphics cards come with some method of connecting to a television set, usually S-Video. But picture quality is usually much poorer than that of a monitor unless you use a HD TV. If your card does support such a feature then there will likely be programs allowing you to set up your TV for use once connected. Just check the Graphics card manufacturer site for utilitys. Other than that you just need to worry about running the wires from the computer to the tv.
