To reduce the stress of gettign too much of one thing and not enough of another the mom 2 be is asking that if you chose to give a gift that it be a giftcard to (whatever store)thank you very much

And to everyone who thinks it's rude an pointless.. it reduces thefights over who wants to buy you what, you dotn have to worry about not having the one hting you need. YOU WONT Get SIX DIAPER BAGS(not bags of diapers) and most importantly of all if you wont be stuck with no clothes fo rthe baby because the baby is bigger or smaller than the clothes you got. AS appreciative as i was I got 0-3 months clothes that my daughter was too small for...I spent the first week of her life trying to find her clothes.....and my neighbor just had a 10 lb baby.....0-3 months is only 5-11 lbs...what good would that have done them if all their babies clothes were only to 11lbs???it's not abbout how happy you are that people liek what you bought for the baby. it's about the baby having what it needs.Although a registry might be a good idea in theory, soemtimes it's absolutly useless. Also those "cute little outfits" everyone says is the most important part of the shower, are not going to pump milk or monitor the baby while it sleeps or anything like that. Like i said it's about the baby no tthe gift givers and apparently there are alot of people on yahoo answers that like to give gifts for the recognition and other selfish reasons...as opposed to it being needed. While no one is obligated to bring gifts, the people who do shouldnt make it about themselves

Sorry, you cannot possibly word that in any way that wouldn't come off as tacky or rude!! You could always tell guests that call asking about the registry that mom prefers gift cards....however, part of the fun of a shower is watchign momma open up all those itty bitty pajamas and booties and accesories!!

Tell the Mom To Be that she needs to register for what she wants....and hope for the best!! No one HAS to give her anything and she should really just, kind of, be grateful for what it is she DOES get, you know?

How About A Baby Gift Card Shower! "Bring the Most Unique Gift Card you can find!" Bring the Prettiest Gift Card you can find!

Or, bring Cash, it is so much more welcome than Gifts and so much easier than wrapping all those objects that come without a box.

how tacky can you get.

Well, it is very tacky and rude to tell your guests what to bring. If someone asks what does the mother want? Then, you can mention gift cards.

Telling people to buy gift cards as a part of the shower is very tacky. Don't do it.

Why only gift cards? Is it because she doesn't know the sex of the baby yet? Maybe wait until after the baby is born to have the shower.

OR ~ just put on the invite "All gifts appreciated, especially gift cards".

I don't think it's possible. You can say that the mom would like gift cards, but you can't insist that that's all the guests give. I got lots of things I didn't register for. You have to be gracious and grateful.

You can't.
You have two choices
1. She could register for gifts at Target or another store with a registry.
2. Skip the shower and get together with friends to celebrate the birth. No gifts.

you can't. it's tacky, greedy and self-centered. if i were invited to a shower where i was told to bring a gift card only, i would send a polite, have-a-nice-day-sorry-i-couldn't-make-it response.

a shower is to celebrate the coming child, not a way for the mom 2 be to clean up....

She might as well be asking everyone to give her cash. The whole point of a shower is for everyone to watch her open the gifts and to see the happiness and joy on her face. Why bother with a shower.
