Actually a lot of the teachings of the Tao Te Ching are hard to understand. Some are easy, but some leave you scratching your head.

alot boils down to human nature. the religion will outlaw something that we like to do. they will either ignore it, follow it, or change it. like the sex before marriage thing in christianity. or like the whole kosher business in judaism.
