You're only 14.
that should be your first clue. What is a boyfriend at 14? You dont have a car, you dont have a job. you just have your parents giving you rides and giving you money. So no, he's not a boyfriend. you dont even know what a boyfriend is until you get out of high school.
but your friend needs to be careful. there are al ot of sick sick sick people out there who are just waiting for some cute 14 year old girl to give out too much information online.

they're just penpals. Don't take the "going out" part too seriously. there are a lot of chat sites with avatars that you can "marry" and all sorts of things... but you can NOT be in an actual relationship like boyfriend/girlfriend if you have never met. At the most you can be interested correspondances.

Definately just a friend. When you are in a serious relationship (which at doubt you would be in one at this age anytway) you would want more quality, a phone call, a visit, a card, etc. They are just friends.
However, there are serious relationships online. My bestfriend met her husband online. He used to live in a different state, then one day whe went to visit her, then he moved to the same city, same neighborhood and then they got married.

Really, she can't consider him a boyfriend if they have never met face to face or even talked on the phone. She isn't even going out with him, it is juts an online "fling".

It could be a boyfriend. You could live in New York and have a boyfriend in China. All I can say is since it's online and they don't know each other much, BE CAREFUL!

A boyfriend is someone you see and date or spend time with...a person online, whom you have never met, is not your boyfriend or girlfriend (although that potential may be there).

Nothing if she hasn't seen him or even heard his voice he doesn't exist or at least the person he claims to be doesn't. Furthermore You guys are 14 years old trying to date people over the Internet only makes you vulnerable to sick, FAT, old predators.
