% grade = rise/run *100%
for example if you elevation chages 52 feet over a horizontal distance of a mile (5280 feet). Your % grade is
52/5280 * 100 = 0.985%, about a 1% grade

RE:
How do I calculate the % grade?
I have the distance and the differance in elevations but I can't remember if the % grade is the relationship of elevation / distance or the % of a 45 degree angle. I building a walkway for handicap people and the % grade can't be more than 5%. Aloha

(difference in elevation)/Distance expressed as a percent.
Makes a long ramp, Doesn't it.
For example, if you want to go up 5 feet you need a 100 foot ramp.
