Trust me. Americans aren't upset over Paris Hilton. America laughs at that. Trust me - right, left, high or low........Iraq is much more upsetting to Americans than that broad.

I think the question is attempting to find rational ground for discussion, but , assuming its predicate is true, I am afraid that it reveals a side of America that is eerily similar to the "bread and circuses" of the fallen Roman empire.
A lot of us are today transfixed by ephemeral, "sic transit gloria mundi" subjects that distract us from the real, personal, gritty issues facing each of us every day. The American rat race is not conducive to thinking outside the box of our selfish, personal desires.
Questions like this one only emphasize the phenomenom we all exhibit from time to time: repeating error-prone activity with the unrealistic expectation for a different result. Error-prone activity here means wasting time arguing about which of these uncontrollable events is more devastating to the individual psyche. We cannot control Iraq's course in history and we cannot control PH's penchant for getting into trouble and then - - what, getting out of it? is THAT what is upsetting us? who cares? And the effort expended in weighing each one of these issues can surely be better used in solving the problems that do mean something in our communities: drugs, raising kids in a circus-like atmosphere, just, darn it, treating each other as respectable and decent human beings.

Their moral priorities are screwed up.
Who cares about Hilton --- she committed an illegal act and needs to pay for it just like anyone else. Just because she is a spoiled rich brat, does not mean she should get out of being punished. It sets a bad example for our kids.
