i am dieting and am only consuming 1400 calories a day (i would have to consume 2500 to maintain my current weight). if i ate them all at one time, would i gain weight? because i really don't like to eat in the morning or during the afternoon, but i like to eat around 4:30 for some reason and i tend to just pig out eating like 1200 calories then and at no other time all day.

you get are taking in the same amount of calories so you're not gonna gain anymore weight then you would if you spread it out. it is healthier to eat at different times of the day though

Not really, it really is a simple math equation of calories in and calories out. There is actually an eating strategy known as intermittent fasting that is similar to what you are thinking about. If you could throw in a workout right before you eat all of those calories you might find that it works well. It is about total calories not when they are eaten... A little secret-that whole six meals a day ramping up metabolism is an overstatement and simplified dogma.. not science. Also our metabolism is working whether we are awake or not if it weren't we would never wake up we would be dead, metabolism is a twenty four hour a day process calories burned per day are burned over the course of the whole day not just while we are awake people like to repeat snippets that they hear without checking, sad but true because myths that go completely against science are repeated over and over again by people with no background or fact checking.

You are close to the right track: You want to have a deficit in calories consumed to calories burned. That means you want to be burning more calories than you consume, so hopefully you are exercising. But by starving yourself all day you not only are not reving up your metabolism but your body is in starvation mode, storing energy for later use, this means that when you do eat your body will take what it needs and store the rest as fat for later. your body is also probably not getting the nutrients it needs to do all of the work it has to throughout the day if you are only eating one meal a day. It definitely depends on the quality of the meal you eat as well (everything in moderation). Even if you aren't hungry you should take a snack with you in the morning or afternoon, even if it is just some nuts or raisins. That way your body is getting nutrients, your metabolism is working and not in starvation mode. (if you want to lose weight in a healthy way and keep it off that is) Good Luck!

i wouldn't do that because that can give you problems in the future. I use skip breakfast and lunch just because I wasn't hungry and with all the after school stuff I wouldn't get home until about 4:30-5pm and I'd eat do homework, eat dinner and go to bed. So I lost a lot of weight, but as soon as I started to eat breakfast and/or lunch I gained a lot of it back. So I wouldn't do that unless you plan on sticking to it forever, plus it's not healthy to do that to your body.

the fact that you are only eating later in the day is bad. eating starts your metabolism. so you need to eat breakfast. if not your metabolism will be slow all day then you eat and soon after go to sleep. you won't be burning any calories. you will be sleeping on them and that will cause you to gain weight. you pig out because you are starving yourself all day and your body needs food to work throughout the day. if you are only going to eat once...which i would never ever recommend i would say eat in the morning. that way it jump starts your metabolism and you burn the calories throughout the day.

Yes you will gain weight..Your body uses your metabolism to help keep your weight off..By eating 5 smaller meals a day you could lose weight quicker..Eating these smaller meals keeps your metabolism working all day therefore burning calories..

you might not gain weight, but you probably won't lose weight either. you need to eat several times during the day to raise your metabolism. try it and see what happens. Sonya Thomas competes in food eating contests and eats one big meal every day. she's very small.
