Two years ago a car that was behind us bumped into us. He did absolutely no damage at all. We never filed a claim or made any reapairs because there was no damage. We were thinking about selling our van at a dealer & they did a carfax. It came back saying the airbag was deployed & the van suffered some damage. How do we get this cleared up?

We had the police show up & told him what had happened, that we had no damage(we called because he was trying to take off, give us money & begged us not to call anyone. We told the officer that there was no damage.

The police report is dated after we bought it. The incident happened within a couple weeks after we bought it & it was dated as such.

How do you prove it did not happen? If you can prove it, then you can get it fixed.

Are you the original owner of the van or are you a second-hand owner? Are you certain the airbag and damage incident reported on Carfax was the same incident with the no damage accident? Double check the dates on the carfax report. If you're not the original owner of the van, the previous owner may have had an accident that he never mentioned to you. If that's the case, then you have to stick with what Carfax reports.

You know what? This would be a great question for The Clark Howard show. He's a syndicated radio consumer advocate. He deals with stuff like this all the time, but I've never heard about a carfax error on his program.

Give him a call. Go to clarkhoward.com for the calling info.
