I am looking for a new car. I just paid of my 2003 Mitsubishi Eclipes but I have this thing about impluse shopping. I saw the Mitsi, test drove it and signed papers the same day. I love that car but now that I am older, I am looking more for a usable car. I was looking at SUV's and as we now, gas prices are outragous and the hybrid is out of my budget. Anyone have pros and/or cons regarding the Rabbit?

I have always owned foreign cars, okay asian cars like nissan, acura, honda and mitsubishi. I have researched the rabbit on many different site. But still not sure if the German car is right for me quite yet. Thanks to all that have answered!

If you're interested in the Rabbit you might want to also consider the Honda Civic. The 2-door models are really sporty, if you're looking along those lines. They are also, like Toyota, pretty much the most reliable cars in the world. They hold their value like crazy, get excellent gas mileage and (IMHO) drive as well as VW's.

I've owned both Honda's and VW's. The VW's drive well, don't get me wrong, but the Honda's are normally as good and (surprisingly) both faster and more fuel efficient.

Toyota's are great cars, but Honda is more stylish.

And, if you really want to stretch your dollar, Hyundai is really coming on strong in quality.
At least VW's equal by now.

The rabbit changed its named from the golf. Which was changed about a year ago. Its actually a pretty good ride. But don't count it for a sporty interior either whatsoever, pr comfortable seats either. However you are getting your money worth the rabbit has a lot of hp, abut doesnt use up that much gas.

I think they are a bit over-priced. They have a relatively low quality rating. The advertised gas mileage is good. But stand next to one. They are really small. I suggest you look at a Toyota Corolla or Toyota Camry. Toyota has become number one for auto sales for good reasons: prices are reasonable, the quality of the autos is the best, they hold their value extremely well and both get decent gas mileage.

Check the yahoo motors section, it has user reviews, which will give you a good indication of any issues
