With 1 yr olds, they are interested in everything, but their attention span is very short. You need to have a lot of different things ready for them. It doesn't have to be expensive toys, I use to save my junk mail for my kids, they especially loved the offers for credit cards with those fake plastic credit cards in them. A large box that they can sit inside of was another favorite. Pots & pans & lids & wooden spoons. Anything they can stack. An old purse with some keys inside & an old wallet, a comb, some papers. Books. I use to have a drawer in my kitchen that had some toys in it & some old bowls & cups & spoons & things, that they could play with when I was busy in the kitchen. Just be creative & anything that they can't get hurt with, or swallow, will make an interesting toy to them. It just wont usually last more than 5 to 10 minutes, then they are bored with it. Good Luck!!!

Give them lots of age related books to look at, toys that make different noises, dolls and bottles or diapers to play with the doll with, blocks, a mirror and hats, different shoes (big ones, little ones, girls, boys, etc). Most one year olds just want to explore everything so the more parts of your house that are baby friendly the better. Let them have run of the house for a while. Also, try making a fort out of chairs and a blanket. They love going in and out of this.

My 17 month old likes to watch the Wiggles videos and play with mega lego blocks. This keeps him busy for a couple of hours. I have also found the large cardboard boxes work great too!

1. Take walks around the neighborhood
2. go to the mall or musuem just to people watch
3. let her/him go through your kitchen cabinets and play with the pots/pans/tupperware/spoons/spatulas, etc. - pretend cooking
4. read books
5. arts and crafts - coloring, finger paints, etc
6. go to a petting zoo where they can touch cows, sheep, pigs, etc.
7. go on a picnic
8. pretend tea party
9. www.noggin.com - my 2 toddlers love this site. The music/vidoes are amazing
10. watch toddler shows but really get into them and jump up and down, etc.
11. build a fort out of chairs and sheets and invite friends over like their stuffed animals.
12 have them help you make a meal. they can add water, put cheese on top of dishes, etc. As long as they feel like they are helping!
13. Lastly, get a book about activities to do with babies or toddlers. We have one and got lots of great ideas from it.

Let them play with your tupperware, or pots and pans. They love it! If you have a fenced-in yard, get a covered sandbox and some buckets. You can sit outside with him and read, or do your bills, or weed the yard while he is playing. They also like toy lawn mowers and doll strollers. As long as you let them play near you, they will enjoy almost anything at that age!

Attend every play group you can. Find your local Sure Start centre and ask them, or your Health Visitor, for information on groups near you.
Failing that, go to the park, feed the ducks, go to a zoo...
Just get out of the house :)

A cardboard box!! I swear, they can have fun with them for hours on end, no joke. Just put a few toys around it, they'll keep themself busy with putting them in, taking them out, jumping in themselves, etc...haha. They'll get creative! And they'll put on a show for you to enjoy, too!

Please! If you find an answer let me know. I'm having the same problem with my 10 month old. He doesn't like toys. The only thing he will tolerate is people watching!
