If changing vehicles to an alternative fuel source vehicle helped the environment, would you switch over?

Hiya there,
I go to college 3 days a week in sheffield which from my home postcode to the college postcode is exactly 26 miles (52 miles round trip or 156 miles per week)). When I used the public transport system I had to catch four buses (8 a day) and start very early in the morning and get home very late, not to mention the expense and of course the pollution of four big vehicles. I have a car and although my journey was quicker because I left the house later, it still cost my £30 for the 3 days travel but it was kinder of the environment. Then I got a 125 Fly piaggio scooter and I started even later in morningsd because I could drive through traffic, it cost me £6.80 for the WHOLE week in fuel and it was really kind to the environment. It was a win win situation for me, my bank and the environment. The answer is a scooter.

That would depend, for instance the current hybrid help reduce carbon emissions but the additional cost vs. the fuel saving is such that you can not recover your investment and the effect of the reduced emissions is questionable. Ethanol as an alternative fuel source is supposed to reduce pollution but ultimately will result in food shortages. In this case you could have a cleaner environment but people would have to die for it. When they come up with a cheap, clean fuel source (and they will went it becomes economically viable) I will certainly switch.

Our world is so far into global crisis I cannot see why anyone could find a reason NOT to switch over.

However, the combination of motor vechicle moguls like GM, Forgein oil profits, ignorant/selfish consumers, and our government have already put a stop to electric cars being released. Watch "Who killed the electric car?" to find out the background.

Instead, they are hyping the 'eventual' release of the car that runs on 'hydrogen', a more profitable car for them to produce and run. (Right now they are priced at about $1million/each).

It's an embarrasing conspiracy that our countries government and corporate leaders are profiting from at everyone's expense...the earth.

Probably not. If the cleaner car cost the same and worked as well as the standard car, then I might, but I am not willing to spend a lot of money just to help the environment.

I'm actualy waiting until the smart car is released in the U.S. because I dont want my first vehicle purchase to mess up the environment further. Otherwise I'll just suffer it and take public transportation.
