Simple....common sense! Don't get me wrong, I am not trying to be rude...but it really is that simple; eat properly and exercise. I weighed 300 pounds and I now weigh 220 just by watching what I eat and exercising. Don't fall for fad diets or pills!!! Simply eat 5 small meals a day (to boost metabolism) and do some general cardio (walk for 30-45 minutes) twice a week. If you hit a rut during your weight loss then mix it up....do more cardio, hit the gym, go swimming instead.....simple.

**And for those people that use NutriSystem or any other program, all they do is teach you how to eat responsibly! I am not ragging on them, if that helps you, then GREAT! Also, if you want to go on NutriSystem without paying the $10 a day (ridiculous) just look up "NutriSystem Alternative" in any search engine and you will get the guide for FREE...it will tell you what to eat, etc. DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!!!!

Good luck with your weight loss, you will do just fine!

:)

I lost about 130 lbs by evaluating what I ate and limiting food items which cause me to gain weight or crave more food. Exercising is important to any weight loss. I did something similar to Atkins, but incorporated whole grains into my diet. Sorry, but I will not give up my pasta. When I go to any store to grocery shop, I always read the labels. If sugar, high fructose syrup or corn syrup is one of the first 3 ingredients, I usually try to stay away from such items. That means there is a high concentration of it in the product and sugar is the one thing I needed to limit in my eating. I eat around 1500-2000 calories per day and when possible I track my daily intake of foods on www.fitday.com. I did this the first 6 months and lost 70 lbs. And within the next year I dropped the other 60 lbs. By doing this, I was able to see what I was eating and it helped me to make better choices. Also getting enough water is essential to any diet. Try to avoid sodas even diet and fruit juices because they are nothing but sugar. For example instead of orange juice, why not eat an orange. It has less calories and more fiber than the juice. Just making a few adjustments to your daily routine and you should see results. More veggies, lean meats and fish. Smarter choices in your selection is key.

By the way, I am 5'4" and weighed 285 lbs, now I weigh 155 lbs. Would like to lose a few more, but the key is to focus on how you feel, how your clothes feel and not the scale. Its about becoming comfortable in your own skin.

There is no trick or secret, evryones body chemistry is different. You have to do what works best for you and your schedule. I personally have lost 58lbs and counting after having daughter almost 18 months ago now but it was definetley not easy. Knowing it is not easy is probably the most important thing to keep in mind. Some people diet with programs like weight watchers or Jenny Craig and loose the weight. I tried Nutri System and Jenny before having my daughter and I did loose weight but when I stopped eating their food the weight came right back and then some! I exercise atleast 45 minutes 5 days a week if not more. I do cardio and weight training to boost my metabolism and eat small portions of lean healthy foods. I really have not cut any food group out I just cut my portion sizes to more than 1/2 what I used to eat. That way I dont feel like I am sacrificing my favorite foods! Lots of fruit and veggies for extra snacking and energy in between meal helps me from feeling to hungry inbetween meals. I try not to go too long inbetween meals so I dont overeat. Oh and I pretty much completley cut out all sweats except for special occasions. Birthday cake only for my birthday only a few bites. I just have to remind myself that I am not getting any younger and the older I get the harder it si to loose weight. Seeing my daughter grow up is far more important to me than any food could ever be! Being healthy is the best way I know how to make sure that happens

Hey... I so feel your pain. I've lost about 20 lbs over the last 2 years. The key is to gradually make more and more small changes. First, I stopped drinking regular soda!!! If you drink it at all, that's adding at least 150 calories a day -- for just one can. Second, start adding exercise: don't worry about starting anything too strenuous too fast. Even just taking long walks with a friend or your dog is great. Consider workout DVDS or programs. I like Tae-bo and I've recently gotten a great computer program called MySelf! Fitness, which creates a work-out profile for you, tracks your progress, and will even create meal plans. Check out Fitness magazine for ideas and inspiration. Third, start watching what you eat. Do NOT try any crazy fad diets: they're insanely hard and really limiting. Keep a food journal. Eat more fruits and vegetables, and tailor what you eat to your own tastes. If you don't like grapefruit or egg whites, don't rely on those things; if you love chocolate, don't cut it out. The important thing is to make changes that you can maintain over a long time. Sudden, drastic changes may allow sudden, drastic weight loss, but I guarantee that it's not sustainable.
Without knowing your personal information and habits, I can't make more specific suggestions, but I hope these things help. Good luck!

You know what you do? Drink coffee. Twice a day - one for breakfast, and the other around 2:00pm. Not only does it curb hunger, make you feel good, but caffeine also contains paraxanthine (which increases lipolysis = "lipid splitting." Meaning: the breakdown of fat stored in fat cells.)

I learned that in college physiology. Been drinking coffee for 3 months twice a day. I don't get hungry that much, I always have energy, clear head, and I lost 20 lbs almost effortlessly. With NO EXCERCISE. If you excercise, I bet you'd lose even more.

But yah. Coffee is cheap, too. I use the instant one, just in case I have hunger pangs, I just drink it. And use sugar substitute. Metabolism increases by up to 30% with caffeine in your system.

I had tried EVERYTHING and joined Nutrisystem in January of this year. I have lost 59 pounds so far! It is an AWESOME program and the food is delicious. I still have more to go but it's coming off fast and with very little effort. For about $10 a day, it is SO worth it. If I can do it, ANYONE can. I am not a great dieter by nature. That's why I have to lose so much! LOL Good luck!

find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

i lost about 40lbs and i follow this every day of my life
