Well i think in depends on a couple of things. First what looks best with your skin tone. Second what do you wear a lot of. Third if you wear a watch on that wrist what color is your watch so that it will coordinate. Last what do you like best. So for me I prefer white gold.

I have yellow gold, and absolutely love it! It's classic and durable, which fits my very active life! White gold is the current fad, but requires upkeep. Silver has its own problems, as well. Platinum is an option too.
If you're the one buying the ring, like an engagement ring, you should be able to get a hint from the type of jewellery she currently wears - either by a ring she wears or a necklace. For example, I only wear yellow gold necklaces, so my rings match.(not that jewellery always has to though, it just might give you a clue, if you are totally uncertain).
Also, depends upon what your budget is! Guys a lot of the time prefer 10K yellow gold because it is so durable, resists scratching and being misshapen from being bumped, etc.

I hate yellow gold. My engagement ring is white gold so I would say my wedding ring will most likely be white gold to match. White gold or silver goes with more stuff.

I bet if you look on your girlfriends hands and neck then whatever color of jewelry that she wears the most of then you can be sure that is what she would prefer. Better yet ask her what does she like best. Make out like you are going to buy her a nice necklace. Good Luck and God bless you also. And if their is no wedding in sight and you just wanna know then yes, I seem to like silver these days, But still gold is nice with certain clothes.

I would prefer a white gold band as I dont care much for yellow gold and sterling silver tarnishes.

I got a two tone yellow and white gold ring, I cant wear silver or plain white gold or platinum, it doesnt look good with my skin tone

Silver! It goes with everything. I really, really, really dislike gold wedding rings.
