He is probably using the time outside to play instead of to go, so then he gets inside and goes. Watch him outside and make sure he does his business out there and don't let him in until he does. Every time they go in the house it is 2 steps back with potty training.

A puppy doesn't know where it is supposed to do its business at?? You have to teach them where you want them to go potty!!!
I have a 14 week old Lab puppy I've had her since she was 6 1/2 weeks old. She lives in the house too! I started training her as soon as we brought her home!!
We trained her to go outside on a leash!! It took me 3 1/2 weeks to do so.
You just can't put a puppy in the back yard and expect them to do their business. They have to be trained!!!
I started out with putting the dog's leash on the front door knob. I always kept a close eye on her. When I would see her with her nose to the floor or she was wanting to go into another room I would pick her up. I picked her up because when I would try and call her over to the door she would get sidetracked. Then she would pee or poop where ever she might be. So I would pick her up and walk over to the door and put the leash on her. Then I would carry her outside due to her being so small at the time and place her down in the same spot every time. I then would walk around with her telling her to go pee or poop.
After she was done then I would pick her up and carry her back into the house. Try not to let the puppy play while trying to get it to go potty due to it might become confused why it is outside in the first place!!
When I brought her in the house I would give her a treat. I keep the treats by the front door.
I feed my puppy three times a day. That is how many times a puppy is to be fed. After she would eat I would wait for about 10-20 minutes then I would taske her out repeating the same process.
When she would take a drink of water I would wait for about 10-20 minutes then I would take her out repeating the same process.
I have our puppy sleep with my husband and me. That way I know when she would wake up. I then would get up and take her out. In the beginning I was having to get up 3 times a night. Now at 14 weeks old she can sleep until around 5am.
She will now go to the door and sit there until I take her out!!
Sometimes she will even bring me her leash!!
Good Luck hope this helped!!

YOU need to go out with him, watch him closely for results and praise him when he goes. Leash him inside and make sure you take him out every 2 hours and after each meal. Puppies do not know they are to go outside and often if just put out by themselves get lonely and wait to when someone is around to go. If you take him out and he will not go then crate him and try again in 15-30 mins. Housebreaking some breeds is very time consuming and the smaller the dog the harder it is. I don't do puppies, I prefer dogs that are at least 1 yr as puppyhood can be a trial.

You won't get perfection at 10 weeks, but you can be starting training. Watch him at all times and you will soon notice when he is looking for a spot to go on. Take him outside then, keep him outside till the job is done, and then a little praise. If you have to be elsewhere then put him in a restricted area with his bedding till you can give him attention again. As he gets older he won't want to pee &c in his domain, so you need to gradually let him discover the house as his area. Expect accidents up to a year old though, especially if he gets into somewhere he is unfamiliar with

I would practice humane crate training. The dog is crated and allowed out often. when the dog does there business outside treat them and allow them some freedome from the crate. If they don't do there business they go in the crate imediately. They will learn very quickly that doing business outside will earn them treats and freedom from the crate.
There crate should be there home and the space inside should only be bide enough to lay down in and turn around. Also the feed the dog in the kennel and hide treats in the crate.

You must make a loud noise like "arghh" so that they know you are not happy about it.Do you put newspaper down?It should be kept near to the door that they come in and out of.When they do their buisiness on it,make a big fuss and praise them for it.You can also buy puppy pads, which are quite expensive but absorb alot of wee.Once they have established going on the paper near the door, start putting the soiled paper outside where you would prefer them to go.
Also it is really important to never let your pet see you clean it up as in their minds you are the parent who will always do this, and they will then think its ok to do it over and over.
Some people think by rubbing their nose in there wee will make them stop, but this will just make them more nervous.
It does take alot of time and can test you!!but you are lucky that its now getting warmer and they will spend more time outside, which wille encourage them to mark their territory in the garden.
Good Luck!!

well I just recently got a puppy and if she does do it in the house you should say NO! outside! and put her/him outside so that he/she should do it outside it will take about 1 to 3 weeks to work but it eventually pays off. Also don't him/her back in until he/she is done.

Do you go outside with your puppy, tell him "go pee"' and then give him lots of praise when he does? If you don't, how is he supposed to know when he's done it right?
To housetrain a puppy, you need to go out with him, tell him "go pee", then give lots and lots of praise when he does and come straight back in. When he's in the house, you need to keep him in the room with you so you can take him out after a nap, hard playing, a long drink or if he's looking restless and circling.

Well ... Do you go outside with him? When you are housetraining.. You have to go outside with them. That way you can see if they actually go or not.. so you know not to bring them into the house, or it's fine to come in.. But it also gives that opportunity to praise them for going outside.. IF they dont' get praise for going outside, then they don't know that it's the best thing for them. If they get punished when they come in. Well they learn that attention is attention, negative or positive.. If you weren't outside saying GOOD BOY, but in side you were saying Bad boy.. Then what the heck, we'll pee in the house cause it got some attention. You want to praise them outside so that they think it's more worth their while to pee outside cause that's where they got the good attention. and occasionally a treat.. Why pee in the house if you can get a treat and a head rub when you pee outside ?
Dogs also learn too that if they pee and poop fairly quickly, then they have to go back in the house. If they prolong the peeing, they get to stay outside longer. So you want to get them to pee outside, praise and treat, spend a few minutes playing then go back inside if that's what you are going to do. You want them to know that just cause they peed, the fun isn't over yet.
When he does pee, tell him Good boy go PEE PEE.. SO that he knows that he is going pee pee.. When he poops tell him Good boy go Poo poo or what ever you call it ! :) Anyhow if you name what it is that he is doing, later when you need him to go fairly quickly cause you are in a hurry, he has some reference as to what it is that you want him to do..
Edit : Those puppy pads aren't a good idea.. It confuses dogs, they know they shouldn't pee in the den, yet you are telling them that they should.. Dogs should be trained straight off to be peeing outside.. That way there is no confusion, no 1/2 housetrained dogs, no dogs that think it's okay sometimes to pee in the house sometimes not.. Forget the puppy pads and really housetrain . Newspaper, same thing.. Just confuses the whole situation.

Never let your puppy go out unsupervised. Take him out on a leash!!! Take him to the spot you want him to go to. Sit there and wait, don't say anything til he goes. Then reward him. regulate his food and water. give him water when ever he wants as much as he wants just put it up when he is done. this way we can avoid accidents. Assume he has to go right after eating and drinking. he can't come in or play til he goes potty. When he does then reward him!!! Call me (650)355-1751 Scott. I am an accredited dog trainer
