I was given a ticket for no seatbelt. I paid the amount given on the letter that they sent me. Right now when I'm checking my citation online it says bail forfeiture 4/17/07 (this is the date of my payment). What does it means?

Bail is normally established for an individual that is actually taken to jail. When you're issued a ticket (summons) your signature is essentially your promise (bail) to appear on the court date given you during the stop.

As the other poster indicated, bail forteiture is where any money posted to get out of jail pending a court date is retained by the court for failure to appear in court.

Was there any other offense you may have been arrested for at the same time you received the seatbelt ticket?

You may telephone the clerk of the courts office to insure you have paid all your fines or feel free to email me directly if you have additional questions.

Best wishes.

You had better go and check this out. It could be as simple as when you paid it they call it bail forfeiture but that doesn't sound right. Bail forfeiture usually means that you failed to do something you should have done and therefore the law kept your bail money and will issue a warrant for your arrest. I hope you got a receipt when you paid and I hope you still have it.

Bail fortfiet is as it sounds, obviously u had bail, didnt meet agreement involved in bail, therefore u forfieted,u lose the $,u gave it away.depending on the severity of why bail was set ,look out,now they may be able to issue a warrent for your arrest on 2 charges, the original and jumpin bail
good luck

Sounds as if it's just a way of saying instead of posting a payment as bail to keep the case open and contest it, you plead guilty.

Call em and make sure.
