I was told to boost my metabolizm I need to "go" more. I usually only go about once every 3 days. So I have been taking a vegatable laxative (sena-kot I think its called) every other evening and I go the next morning like clock work. Is that bad? I am trying to lose weight but am not starving myself or using this as a weight-loss technique.

i think if you have the proper diet a natural laxative is just fine. remember a proper diet is key.

A natural way would be better...your body can become dependant on laxitives. And this is not good. Eating a bowl of granola, lots of fresh fruits and lots of steamed veggies is the best way to get the bodies bowels to work properly along with good exercise. If you are having this kind of problem and trying to loose weight, I suggest you eat 6 small meals a day instead of three larger ones. It really works. And uptake your water which is like oil in a car...which may be your problem altogether...when someone does not drink enough water then your liver does not create the bile to make your bowels work properly and everything gets clogged up.... hope it helps.

As long as your not using it to loose weight (bulimics normally use laxatives) and your doctor is the one who told you to start using it you should be fine. There is nothing wrong with a daily BM or even twice a day, but if you start to go more often than that go back to your doctor.

i think it's good in the short term but not permanently. i think your body can get so used to it that it can cause you to loose some bowel control. but if it is a natural laxative that is much better and probably not bad to continue using, maybe just use it less and less times per week as you get more regular.
