If you were my child, I would hope you would feel free to come to me with any problems you have. Don't you think that the parents of those children that have committed suicide, wish that they new how depressed their children really were? Don't waste another minute and tell your mother just how you feel, I am sure she will understand. It's a cruel world out there and being depressed is nothing to be ashamed of. Good-luck sweetie now go talk to your mother.

I want to combine two of the answers here. First, I think you should just come out and talk to your mother. Tell her how you are feeling, how depression is affecting you. The word "depression" is a big zero to many people. They need to know what it means to you, how it feels to you.

If your mother is not responsive to your mental health needs, I agree that you should talk to your school counselor. Many have taken courses or classes in depression since it is endemic in some schools.

If you get help with neither, consider your religious leader or even getting in touch with your doctor's office yourself and explaining to the person who answers the phone how you feel.

I don't know your mom, so unless I get more information, I would say the answer to your question would be,

"Mom, I think I have depression."

I have depression, I would suggest speaking to a guidance counselor at your school or a social worker, they can calmly explain to your parents and suggest you see someone who can diagnose you.
