This is the first place your body targets when you are dehydrated. Drink lots of water! You should be drinking 8-10 glasses of water each day. I recommend purified water and mineral water mixed 50/50. The mineral water is going to put back into the muscles what they are losing on a daily basis.

For now, if you have something shaped like a cylinder and made out of hard material (think of a large rolling pin you would use for pizza dough or something) place it under your leg and push down and roll it back and forth...this should massage the spasms out of your leg. It will hurt while you're doing it, but more so the type of pain that actually feels good, in the long run.

I've had that before. Does it wake you up in the middle of the night? It hurts much worse than childbirth and my leg is sore for a week afterwards. Try to get enough calcium. Wear knee high socks to bed. If you get a cramp, stand up and stretch it.

Okay, I know this is going to sound strange, but try putting a bar of soap in your bed, perhaps at the foot of the bed. It seems to help me, and I thought it was a crazy idea. I've noticed that if you overwork a muscle, it seems to have a better chance of cramping up at night. You have my sympathy because I know how bad leg cramps can be!

Try increasing your banana intake. If you get a Charlie Horse in your leg when you're in bed, just get up and stand. That should take care of it.

First of all, Teddy is right about the bar of soap under your bed sheets. My mother in law does it too, and it works. Also increase you potassium intake, bananas, and yogurt are good sources.
