As a general rule, I would say middle western Illinois and Missouri. Pike county ,Illinois has a huge population of deer and that particular county usually gets the record size along with the record kill amount.
I dont say this because I have access to land there. We have a hunt group varying from 2 to 8 guys. In the last 19 years, we have taken 107 deer from there. Average size about 150 pounds. We have taken some field dressed that weigh about 200 or so. None of us are Trophy hunters. We hunt to fill the freezer. Just so happens this area is very good for Turkey also.
