Many people are uncomfortable with paragraph marks visible on the page (the technical name for the character is pilcrow, by the way), but they won't print or affect your output in any way.

If you can get used to them, they can be very useful, for instance in knowing exactly where a paragraph really ends. Much of Word's paragraph formatting (indentation, line spacing, ...) is attached to the paragraph mark, so knowing exactly which one you just deleted can explain some very mysterious and usually unintended format changes.

But if you still want to get rid of them, the simplest way is this:

1. Click the Tools->Options menu item.
2. Click the View tab.
3. In the Formatting Marks section, deselect Paragraph Marks.
4. Click OK.

Go to the Home tab on the top bar thingy. In the paragraph sub-menu, there is a button that looks like the backwards P that you're talking about. Hit that to turn it off.

This is part of the formatting marks.

Go into tools, options
under the view tab, untick the formatting marks

you can also remove it by clicking the icon with the same mark on the "standard" toolbar

Open Word and click Tools/Options and then click the View tab. In Formatting Marks, remove the check mark from "Paragraph Marks".

That Pi sign (backwards P) will determine the end of your document, or the las character in it. There should be a button witht the same symbol on the toolbars on top, if you click on it it will become invisible

Under the menu bar (File, Edit....), on the bar where the undo/redo options are placed, search for something that looks like the backward P. If you click on it once, it should hide itself.
