Hi

I currently weigh about 176 lbs. and I run/jog/fast-walk (7-5 mph) everday on the treadmill for about thirty minutes.

How many calories should I consume in a day? What is the ratio?

This all depends on your resting metabolic rate, your lean muscle mass, height/weght ratio (bmi), and of course the amount of physical activity you do (including weights)...It's hard to say, but you should probably aim for somewhere in the range of 1600-2000. I personally weight 164 am 5'8" lift weights 2x week, and run/bike/walk/dance etc 3-4 days a week for 30 mins. I eat aprox 1700 for mait. of muscle mass and such. It helps to meet with a trainer or a nutritionist to get all this squared away, after that it's pretty easy to keep up. Good luck! =)

How many calories should you consume in a day? The easy answer is as many as you burn up. Check such websites as www.webmd.com, www.mypyramid.com, etc. The main thing is, what is your height? What other exercises do you do? Treadmills are nice when there is inclement weather, but one should walk out doors as much as possible, shooting for a minimum of 4 miles a day, EVERY day, 7 days a week, 365.25 days a year. Add to that weight lifting (small dumbbells are a big help).
Medicines of all kinds cause weight changes; various illnesses cause weight changes (and weight changes cause illnesses, such as diabetes, heart problems, etc.). As you age, your metabolism will slow (for most people) and you will have difficulty maintaining your weight even when you cut and cut and cut your caloric intake.
When I was young, no matter how much I ate, I could never gain weight. I did not gain weight until the doctor put me on medications to treat an ulcer, and, oh boy, that's when my health problems started. So, more than calories, watch what you take, your life style, and try to avoid being stressed out.

Well... "msgt_knr" according to your formula I should only consume 930cals a day and 440 cals if I wanna lose weight. I hate it when people don't know what they're talking about.
