Anything done in excess is bad
Smoking ruins the temple of the Holy Spirit (the body).....
Drinking in excess will get you drunk.....
But drinking a glass or two here and there....is not wrong
I've always said this: Smoking will not keep you out of heaven...it'll just get you there alot faster

When not done in moderation, yes. Drinking in itself is not a sin, Jesus drank wine. Smoking is sinful because it hurts your body, which is your temple, which should be kept clean and pure. The uses are sinful and the damage they cause are an act of defiling the temple, your body. I am not sure that smoking can be done in moderation and not hurt you. Pretty much, even 2nd hand smoke hurts a body. So unlike drinking, which can be done in moderation, I think smoking serves no purpose but to harm the body.

I have always had the belief of everything in moderation. Doing anything in excess will hurt your body. As far as a sin, I don't consider smoking or drinking a sin, just bad for you.

I think so because it is harming your body (the temple of the holy spirit) However, I think it is ok to have 1-2 glasses of wine or beer per day. My doc says it's actually healthy. Preferably 1. On the other hand, I am a Christian and I smoke every day and drink once in awhile. I feel convicted of that. I want to stop smoking, but it is so hard. I pray everyday that God would take the craving away. My grandma woke up one morning after praying the same thing and had no desire to pick up another smoke after smoking for 30 years. I hope I can quit soon. Interresting question.

I don't think that they are sins as long as you do it in moderation. I think that smoking is really stupid- I use to smoke and it was gross. As for drinking, I don't do it because of severe alcoholism in my family, but ya know what Jesus went to a wedding and brought the wine. You shouldn't be drunk by any means though, that is too much.

Nowhere in the bible does it say that smoking is a sin, but we should be mindful of what we put into our bodies that is not healthy for us, whether we are a Christian or not.
As for drinking the bible does clearly state that drinking in excess (drunkeness) is not good for us, because it can lead us into sin.
Having a drink every now and then in moderation is not going to take you to Hell.

I've never read the bible. I've read excerpts from it, but not the whole thing. I think I read somewhere that thou shall not get drunk off of wine....but Jesus himself turned water into wine!!!!! If smoking and drinking is a sin, it might be because it can destroy your body----but so can eating too much, or drinking too much water, or anything in excess---which is where GREED comes into play. I think as long as you do it in moderation, its ok-healthwise unless your body can't really tolerate ANY of the chemicals. However, according to the bible, I'm not sure if smoking is a sin or even drinking because of what Jesus supposedly did.

Getting drunk is expressly condemned in both the Old and New Testament. But simply drinking? No, as long as you do not get drunk.
There is no verse that talks about smoking, but Paul said that you were to take care of your body, which belongs to God. Since smoking is unhealthy, some people assume that it is a sin.

Anything done in excess is a sin. Including eating. There are lenty of instances in the Bible of people drinking in moderation. I don't know of any verses in the Bible that say it's a sin to smoke.

If you drink in front of an alcoholic and cause him to stumble then you are sinning. Jesus first miracle was to turn water into wine at a church function so drinking is not bad. Getting drunk is bad since it seperates you from the will of God.

Sin is defined as a transgression of a divine law. So, which divinity are you asking about? And whose interpretation of divine law are you asking about.
Seriously, if you want to know if smoking and drinking are sins, open your Bible and read about God's law. Them pray and ask God to show you the way.
