Perhaps the most important battle the English lost was the Battle of Hastings (1066)* which had huge implications for English, British and Western history.

Basically after that England was forever changed both socially and linguistically/ culturally.

I can think of 2 right off england lost the american revolutionary war and the war of 1812

Hastings is one of them and the last one only few years ago..
