Got my first contact lens exam yesterday, i've been wearing glasses for years, and finally decided to bit the bullet and go for contacts. I'm now on day two (altho i do't have the actual scrip till i've been wearing them a week, and go back to doc for second eye exam to make sure i'm tolerating them or something).
They made me insert them at the docs, then remove and insert them again before letting me leave, and boy did that take forever. lol. Anyhow, my question is this....how long does it generally take to get good at inserting them, it's still taking me several minutes each eye, I know it's practice that will do the trick, and now i'm determined to do it. In general, does anybody know how long it will take me to get the hang of putting them in and taking them out?

It should only take a couple of days to get pretty good at it. If it helps you, look over to the side a little and still place the contact on your eyeball. They will move over to their spot and stay put.. It's just easier because you're not actually looking right at your finger so it's a little less nerve-racking! I speak from experience ;)

I wore hard contacts for years. They weren't that difficult. When I went to soft contacts, I thought I'd never get them out! Getting them doesn't take too long before you are good at it. Within a few days. Taking them out...that will take about a week to 4 weeks depending upon your problems doing it. I found that once I had my fingers on the contact, that if I moved where I was looking, I could grab the contact for removal better.

It took me about a week or so. However, int he doctors office the first time it took me 30-45 minutes to put my first one in lol! Now I always laugh and tell peopel I have been wearing contacts for so long (15 years or so) I can put them in and take them out without a mirror and everything. I amroud of myself lol
Good luck with them, don't give up! You will get it

It won't take long, soon you'll be doing it in the dark with no mirror!
Remember it takes contacts about 20 min to settle on the eye once you've inserted it. So if it feels funny wait it out for a few mins when putting them in instead of reinserting them.

i had glasses for 6 years before contacts. with practice it took my about a month before it would only take 2 seconds to be finished, when i first started i made an extra 15 minutes in my morning to get my contacts in. don't worry it will come to you, good luck

It only took me a few weeks. You're right - practice makes perfect. I remember going through that. Just be patient. Another factor that you may not be considering is a callous. Your eyes are naturally trying to fight the contacts b/c they see them as foreign objects. (It's not all you!). It's perfectly natural for your eyes to develop a callous...once that is underway, it will be easier to put them in and take them out.

you should be a wiz with it in a few days.

I take mine in and out in the car or wherever.

You should be fine.

Congrats
