Annular rings increase in diameter when heated and regains original diameter on cooling. This property is used to shrink fit axles on a little oversized hub and many other similar applicaton where a strong bond resulting from shrikage is desirable.

It is a method of fitting a metal shaft in a bush where the diameter of the shaft is slightly more than the inner diameter of the bush so to have a very tight fit. The bush is heated first so that it expands and the inner diameter increases. The shaft then can be pushed in the bush. When the total thing cools down and the bush contracts, you get a very tight fit.

It is a plastic shrinkable spaghetti to go over splices in wiring. Then u heat it with something similar to a hair drier and it shrinks the spaghetti on very tight.
