Send them out now so you don't confuse who got you what. Also some of those guests may be so nice to get you a second gift so you should return the favor with a second thank you card.

It is good to send your thank you card's out no later than a week after your shower's. Most people expect a few week;s to go by after your wedding to recieve a thank you, but for shower's and such you need to do it as soon as you can. Doing the thank you cards as soon as you get the gift will also cut down on number of cards you do at one time, remember you will be getting gifts constantly up until your wedding (and even more on your big day) and you don't want to overwhelm yourself.

My Mom always said that a person who receives gifts should send out a thank you within 30 days after you receive it. I would send a thank you for the shower gifts now, you will have many more after the wedding! Congratulations!

Send the cards for the shower gifts now.
Then after the wedding, you send out thank yous for those gifts.
Don't try double them up, the extra postage is a small price to pay for people's generosity to you.

Traditionally you send out thank you's as soon as possible after receiving the gift. This applies in all instances of receiving a gift, not just weddings/showers!

You should send thank you cards out as soon as possible. I would have been doing it already. No matter when you get the gift you should send it out whether its an engagement gift, shower gift, wedding gift. This way you won't forget any of them.
