I want to re-do our kitchen countertops.
Granite is out - too costly
Corian looks great , but is only a bit cheaper.

I'm not looking for a "first class" effect, just something that looks better than laminate.

Any suggestions?

The advantage of corian, is it weighs much less than granite. You need to go to several home centers and look at what they have. Everyone has a different product, and prices also vary greatly. The amount of money you are going to spend means that you need to do your own homework.

Remember that any money you put into your house will be reflected in the value of it. Corian is a life time product.

Corian is really not much cheaper than stone.

Go to a counter top company and get bids on square foot pricing.

I agree you need to head to Home Depot or Lowes and find out what is available and what fits your budget. You may find that a basic ceramic tile would give you the look without killing your budget and you can choose from many colors. Great for the backsplash as well.

most counter tops look good at first but over time look like hell, some cheaper materials warp, chip or stain easier.

Corian is a better choice
