Why is it that some "Christians" feel they must persecute others for their beliefs? I have had some who feel this way explain to me that they are called upon God to slander others, but did not Jesus tell his disciples to leave those who were casting out evil spirits alone and not interfere with them? Is it insecurity in one's own beliefs that drives them in their attempt to tear down other religions, denominations, etc? What is the psychology of such people?

It's sad because this is one of the biggest reasons people stop coming to church or fall out of gods word. For some reason people like to show what may be wrong with the other person and how they are so much holier then others. The truth is Christ never pointed a finger and said I'm better then you are, he just educated people. Through his teachings people were able to see what was correct doctrine in Gods eyes and what was false.

Christ was humble even when the Pharisees would come and try to rebuke Christ for working during the passover, or saying he was Gods son. I don't think any one of us are worthy enough in Gods eyes or filled with enough of his knowledge to say whose teaching are right and who is wrong. If more people concentrate on following their own beliefs and pleasing their God maybe there would be more worshipers of God

Basically, people choose a religion (including Christians) on the following:

- Has it revealed the true God to them and does that God inspire love, awe and devotion in them
- Does it answer fundamental issues about our purpose on earth now and give hope for the future
-Does it show them a way to enjoy happiness, peace of mind and spirit and live in harmony with the world and all its problems and challenges and offer comfort during times of grief

I guess certain Christians simply CANNOT believe someone can find all those things in a faith different from theirs because they feel they have a monoploy on all those things.

It is a basic human thing to want to be "extra special" and feel superior to others as a way to boost your self-worth.

I think that it may be one reason. They may be trying to convince themselves while they try to convince you. I also think that some people have good intentions but their passion is too great and drives others way. For me, I believe that God would rather I be an example of the peace and love I receive from Him and have others want to achieve that peace as well. I believe that you can't force such a deep and personal issue on anyone. They must seek and find it for themselves for it to be real to them.

Christian are definitely not suposed to look down upon any other denomination of Christianity. This is in the Bible.

Then we are commanded to be the truth and the light to expose evil. The problem is most Christians forget the "Grace " part when telling the truth.

nicely, i'd be biased because I grew up in a hardcore fundie kin. yet, considering that I moved to Canada, i will proudly say that i have met very few illiberal human beings in authentic existence! i'm nevertheless stuck in extreme college with a collection of immature idiots, and that i have a tendency to work out dissimilar illiberal atheists contained in the 15-19 age selection. maximum youthful ones in my college are atheists. the purely 2 Christians i recognize nicely are both shy, quiet, sweet females. individual-smart, there is been some illiberal Christians i have met. it would want to be because i'm a lesbian. now and again at the same time as me and my gf carry hands contained in the park or on the line, snobby human beings will come as a lot as me and tell me to stop being perverted in the front of their toddlers. And my lady friend has a second cousin contained in the area who's an atheist who might want to be fairly indignant about faith. He gained't say some thing to religious human beings's faces or some thing, yet he will whinge to his acquaintances and kin.

There is an interesting passage in the Bible where a bunch of Christians meet Jesus in the end times. They tell him about all the great things they did in His name. Jesus then lists all the things they should have done instead, and He says - "Get away from me you evildoers! I never knew you!" These are the Christians you are referring to.

This is a lesson to all professing Christians. Read the whole Bible not just the parts that allow you to be the Christian you want to be.

I am a Christian and I strive to be a Christian that Jesus will welcome.

Lest you think I'm boasting, remember this bumper sticker - "Christians aren't perfect, we're just forgiven".

I think that sometimes Christians will get this attitude that they are super holy and have the right to bash others, which is completely false. There is a difference between trying to help people through things and slandering them about what they are doing. As Christians I believe that Jesus calls us to help out others, not to slander them and let them suffer.

Very similar to the psychology of the Christian bashes that are posting vile, hateful things about us.

One does not justify the other. We are supposed to try to be good examples of Jesus's life of Peace, Love and Forgiveness, we are supposed to pray for our enemies and our friends as well.

But we, like all people are not perfect, but we do have redemption!

Peace!

I feel it is taking Christian doctrine and using it to back up their own belligerency. It isn't so much Christianity that breeds this, you will see the same thing going on in many groups, they will just use a different source of 'justification' to try to get away with being aggressive.
