I partly correct previous answer.
It's correct to say "repubblica Italiana" is not a nickname but
I disagree that "the boot" (lo stivale) is the only one nickname Italy has. Italy is also known as "il bel Paese" (the beautiful Country) !!

Is a republic....as we havent got a king or queen....and the right spelling is Repubblica...and not Italina but Italiana.....
by the way the letter K doesn t exist in italian alphabet

You mean "Republica Italiana"? That's just the Italian translation of "Italian Republic". Very simple. :-))
The only nickname of Italy that I know is: "the boot", because of it's shape.
And indeed, Italy is a very beautiful country!

Belpaese "Beautiful country" or sometimes people don't like Italy "Banana republic".
