I'm eating 800 calories a day and running four miles 5 days out of the week... i'm in a total rut... please help me understand... thanks in advance

thats because you have lost water weight and muscle NOT fat and slowed down your metabolism dramatically by crash dieting - thats what allways happens when you want a quick fix
find calorie/fitness calculator on the net, enter all your stats and it will tell you how many calories you need a day to maintain, take off 300-400cal off that number and thats how much you need to lose.
eat 5-6 small meals a day (eat every 2-3 hours)
5-8 servings of fruit and veggies a day
8 glasses of water
have complex carbs for breakfast - they give you energy
have lean meat (protein) for dinner - repairs muscle
cardio exercise 4-6 times a week for 30-50min, light weight training
dont consume foods that are made of white flour (white bread, cakes, past etc.), sugar loaded foods (cookies, icecream, candy etc) and nothing fried, oily.
ofcourse you can spoil yourself once in a while with a little treat:)

well, you should do this, go and see a doctor and get appetite supression pills. Its safe to take them for 2 months 60 days. What it does is that it stops you from eating during the day. and if you body has a lot of stored fats, you may find youself not really eating anything for the first 3 days. Drink lots of water in the meantime. This will give you a headstart and in three weeks time, when you see results, you will be motivated further to do the rest. remember, when you are on the supresson, do not eat if your body feels full.

Eat a fruit like papaya or banana if you feel the urge during the day. you will be fine.

After your body has dropped the desired weight, go work out.
good luck:)

the reason your not losing anything is because 800 calories is way too little!!!!!!! your body is going into starvation mode and storing EVERYTHING you eat because it's not getting enough. Up your caloric intake you should not go below 1200 calories a day and even that is pretty severe. Also if you just started running your going to be building muscle, which weighs more than fat. Please talk to a dr or a physical trainer about the smart way to lose weight, if you stay at 800cal a day your going to regain all the weight when you go off it or your going to do some real damage to your body and you health
