When people say, you have character, what do they mean?

Have you been accused of "having character"? If you have, you might be of strong moral fiber or not, you may be good or bad, the only certatinty is that you are memorable as an individual. I have character too, most of it is bad, but it's character nonetheless. All of my good friends also have character. For the most part, the character they posess is also probably not the kind represented in church going, God-fearing, law abiding populations. Yet it is character and I have no question when it comes to their dependability or moral code. The characters I have known throughout my life have often been very entertaining, politically incorrect, tactless, and unconventional and as much as I love them this does not mean I want my kids hanging out with them if you know what I'm saying. However it is meant, I would consider it neither a complement nor a criticism. There are as many bad characteristics as there are good ones. Each must examine their own behavior to determine why they might be memorable before deciding the appropriate response to a "character" comment. Who made the comment might be more revealing that the comment itself, after all isn't it just a question of character?.
