Becoming a vegetarian is pretty easy. I did it about 12 years ago when I was in middle school. All I did was stop eating meat. I ate more pasta, rice, beans, and vegetables than I did when I ate meat. Nowadays though, there are tons of vegetarian "meats," and most of them are really tasty. Check out Morningstar Farms, Boca, and Gardenburger brands. They have everything from veggie burgers to hot dogs, chicken fingers to wraps. There are a ton of options. Be careful though, some of them have a lot of fat in them (not as much as real meat though).

If you want to become a vegetarian, you should do some research online or buy/check out a couple of books. You'll need to know how your dietary needs will change. Many people are concerned that vegetarians don't get enough protein; however, if you eat cheese, eggs, nuts, beans, and vegetarian meats, you'll be fine. But your diet may be different than mine, so you should read up about vegetarians' dietary needs first.

I found it very easy to become a vegetarian, although I had my parents' support, since they were already vegetarian. If you live with your parents and they cook for you, you should probably find a few easy vegetarians and help them cook the meals. This way your vegetarianism won't be a burden.

Being a vegetarian is a good way to be a little healthier, and also care for the environment a little more. I wish you luck- you should have no problems though.

It's a gradual process. First of all, get yourself mentally ready. Go to Yahoo and look up "Meet Your Meat". That video opens your eyes VERY WIDE to how altered our meat at the grocery story is. When you go to a grocery store look for meat replacements. I love tempeh over tofu but you may have different tastes. At first, it will be weird but eventually the thought of eating meat will make you sick. It's not all about just eating veggies either--you can find vegan yogurt, vegan cheese, vegan milk, etc. Your taste buds will awaken to lots of wonderful flavors that are in fruits and vegetables. And you'll have lots more energy. People say that being vegan is unhealthy because of calcium and iron lacking in the diet, but that's bull mess--there is more calcium and iron in veggies than in meat and milk. If you backslide and eat a little meat, don't worry--just make sure it's a one time only thing. Sometimes I even backslide and eat a cupcake or something that has egg or milk in it. You literally have to wean yourself off of these diet habits because you've probably eaten animal products almost all of your life but you CAN do it and it is in the best interest of your health. When you shop for food, have a full stomach and make a list--it will help you avoid making unhealthy decisions. I'd recommend sites like goveg.com and books such as "Please Don't Eat the Animals" for excellent recipes. :)

Slowly but different forms of meat from your diet. Start out with heavy red meats like pork and beef, and slowly move onto turkey and chicken and seafood. If you want to, you can even proceed from there and cut out eggs. Eliminate one meat item every two weeks, so you can get used to yuor life without it. At the same time, for every meat item you cut, add a new vegetable that you haven't tried before. Find some iron-rich veggies to replace meat, like collard, kale, bok choy, spinach, etc. Add other proteins like beans and tofu. If you really are dying in between your diet for a taste of meat, eat something that is artificially beef or chicken flavored like Ramen noodles. This will make you a vegetarian. I hope that this helped and good luck!

I know someone who is very successful at losing weight and keeping it off. She doesn't use any dairy products. Uses soy milk and cheese. Which I have also learned to do for me is was gradual now I like it. Then don't be afraid to use artificial meat. Such as morningstar farms grillers and hot dogs.
Some health food stores has canned chile beans that you would never know there wasn't any meat in them. I make her hamburgers and hot dogs or chili dogs for lunch. She eats cereal for breakfast, and no junk food. Every meal she eats a salad or celery or those baby carrots. A piece of fruit 3 times a day. In between meals. by the time she eats all the stuff she is supose to eat she is full and doesn't need fatening foods. No chips, cookies or pizza or anything she considers fattening. She said, I am only going to be young once and want to have perfect skin and nails and hair and a perfect body. She walks, runs, does dancearobics. Swims and rides horses. Uses berrys on her cereal and it is usually special K because it has a high protein content.
Her sandwitches are thick with lettuce tomato, pickle, onion and anything you could put on a sandwitch. When she goes out it is salad bars with 3 bean salad or Sub sandwitch veggie of course. Which is the only time she eats dairy cheese. When I fix our meals I just leave off the meat and fix a baked potatoe for her and a cup of cooked vegetables and a big green salad. Now Morningstar farms has very good chicken patties. and I can make regular gravy with soy milk.
So her plate looks just like ours only hers is not real chicken.
Same proteing content, a little less fat and less calories.
She does eat baked fish, a little salmon or halibut. Only on occassion. Never eat eggs from the store, from tortured chickens she calls it. we know a lady who has free range chickens and she only eats fresh eggs from known happy chickens. If she is any example of what fresh food from the garden will do for you she is beautiful. [grand daughter]

When you give up meat, you are giving up the protein in the meat. So you need to find other sources of good/healthy protein.

I suppose you could replace the meat (protein) with eating enough nuts, seeds, and low fat dairy products (yogurt, milk, soy milk, cheese, cottage cheese, etc).

Look at labels and find what has protein and eat that instead of meat.

I don't see a problem with eating lean cuts of chicken (baked boneless, skinless chicken breast) and baked fish.

Also eggs are a good source of protein. Although some people may think they are fattening and bad for your cholesterol, having one small egg a day is not going to give you high cholesterol or make you put on weight.

Peas and Oatmeal also have good sources of protein in them (read the labels) :-)

Cheers and good luck becoming a vegetarian.

I suggest to stop eating cows first, then move onto pigs. Some types of vegetarians eat birds and fish, though they're not called such.

Birds and fish are both pretty low in bad types of fat so you might stop there while keeping some meat in your diet. If you still want to deny yourself that which makes you human, you can stop eating birds, then drop fish later.

I would like to say that you and I and everyone else is a carnivore. That means that we eat animals. We've always done it and probably always will. Why deny yourself such a thing. If you believe in God then you must believe that God made us carnivores, and his wishes are that we eat as many animals as possible.

Just stop eating meat will not make you lose weight. There are other things involved. Also you will lose important protein that is important in the process of losing weight. I think you should see a doctor before you start a diet like that.

You want to start off by doing research on vegetarian foods and what vegetarians usually lack in their diets. Then find ways to get the iron, protein and other vitamins from other sources. Do lots of research and talk with a nutritionist.

Not eating meat will help you lose wait. but you have to replace nutrients lost like iron and protien. Alot of green leafy vegetables contain iron ( spinach, artichokes) and you can get protien from things like nuts. Also soy milks and soy cheeses are good and high in calcium. As long as you make sure you're eating healthy, you'll be fine
