Target sometimes carries a little kid's music set w/ various "instruments". I got it for my kids and they love it. since its' small and not real, the noise level isn't too bad; if I really get sick of it we put it away for another day. A diff. idea is a tool set- get one from plastic so it's sturdy but won't hurt him. He can bang away to his heart's content!

Other suggestions all good. You don't need expensive equipment. Save your money to try and take your toddler to an African Drumming workshop, or a toddler music group - it's always amazing to see your child making 'real' music with experts. You just don't realise what they can achieve until you see this

Why not get him a kids drum kit that has everything. You can get them at big department stores or even ebay. If it's something you know he likes then he will be more inclined to look after it and enjoy it. Happy shopping....

Different size boxes - and close them up - tape them up so they don't tear as quickly. Plus - they don't cost anything - so you are not out of money when he 'gets tired of playing.'

Either that - or tupperware...
