I have a bed and I really like it but it takes so much space in my room. I have a small room. Should I toss it or just buy a futon?

put the bed into storage until you get a new place with a larger room, and get a futon!!! make sure you get a good mattress tho, the one's that have springs in them make for the best and can be as comfy as any nice bed, i once had a futon with the worst mattress ever, i had to put a air mattress on top of it, even though air mattresses aren't that good, it was better than the cheap futon mattress!

Futons are very uncomfortable, as I know from many experiences. If you don't need such a big bed, consider just getting a smaller bed (twin maybe). I live in a one-room apartment, and it works fine in here. I also have a small storage unit, so I can hold on to some of my things until I get a larger place.

Futons are fine for a guest room butr sleeping on them nightly is extremely difficult. They are uncomfortable, offer poor support for your back and can cause sleeping difficulties.
If you can't really use the bed, store it and buy a smaller bed OR just buy a good box spring and mattress and install it on proper sized bedframe. Your back will love you for it.

Don't get a futon! Most are very uncomfortable.
Re-assess your room. What other furniture can you get rid of?
Use space under that big bed for storage - buy plastic containers designed just for that at Bed, Bath and Beyond; Linens and Things; etc.
Can you get rid of a dresser, use it instead of a bedside table, or shove dresser/bedtable in a closet?
Do you use the desk in your room? If not, get a file cabinet and get rid of the desk.
Make a map of your room on graph paper. Make cut-outs of all the furniture. [ I color them each a different color so its easier to ID them - bed blue, dresser green, desk red, bed table purple, etc.]
Think outside the box. Try placing furniture in corners, diagonally, all 'wooden' furniture on one wall, etc. It's a lot easier to do it on paper first so your movers don't get mad at you!

I'm not at all a fan of futons, but you might consider downsizing to a twin bed or daybed.
