I am looking at a Ford Focus on Saturday. It is 2002, it has 70 k (miles), 4dr Sedan - 5,000 (plus dealer taxes). I really want it, but I would like someones imput on the car first....Anyone that knows anything about them, or has one that can give me some input on if they liked it, or had any problems or even if that price is too high...let me know!! Thanks!!

First, go here:

http://www.kbb.com/KBB/UsedCars/2002_Ford_Focus.aspx

enter your zip code and follow the prompts to add the model, options, and millage. You will see the retail value of the car.

I would never pay full asking price at any dealership. Offer them about $2000 under asking price, then deal with them. If you get $800 to $1000 off you did very good. Get up as if to leave if you have to. Always say "no" at least 5 times before you agree to a price and get the manager involved directly in the transaction. You will never get the best price from the salesman. By the way, in my area your car retails for about $7200, so I would expect to get the car for about $6200.

These are great little cars as long as the oil has been changed every 3000 miles. They should go a long time but it is critical that you change the oil and filter often. Ask for any records on the car and try to check with the original owner.

Also, very important, never never, buy a used car without getting a carfax report first. The dealer will furnish that upon request if they are any good at all.

Good Luck - Gary

I rented a Ford Focus, I think it was a 2003. For an inexpensive car it seemed nice enough. Drove nice.

You might want to see what fellow Ford Focus owners are saying at carsurvey.org. I've linked below to the 2002 Focus. Based on a quick scan of the reviews, it seems to get a mixed rating. Some people loved it, others had problems fairly quickly.

The Focus is a great car. As long as you go for a post 2000 model. before this they had a lot of recalls which gave them bad press, which were all fixed by then. I have a 2001, which i haven't spent a dime on apart from regular servicing.
Good luck!
