I just started taking Zicam chewable tablets last nite to hopefully get rid of a cold faster that I just got. After looking into Zicam on the internet I saw that there were multiple lawsuits regarding a loss of smell associated with the nasal spray. I've been sick all day and haven't eaten much but I just tried to eat a pizza pocket and I can't taste anything! No joke, it's as if I have no taste buds. This is definitely not from the cold itself; this is pure loss of taste. Has anyone ever heard of this before, and do you know if my taste will come back?

Zicam contains zinc, and yes it affects some people with the loss of smell and taste. Your taste should return.

I tried it for the first time last week. Started within 24 hours of symptom onset. Label says ok to use within 48 hours. I've had the cold for 8 days now. I don't see it shortening or easing up at all. Everybody's different however. I will keep it on hand, so I can apply immediately the next time, and see if I have any better results. Feel better!

the lawsuits involve people who had obvious allergic reactions to the base the Zicam gel is in, not to the zinc itself.
these people continued to use the stuff even after they had the reaction, frankly these are frivolous lawsuits, and I am sure they will lose.
You, I think, are suffering from loss of taste purely due to your cold. It gets worse before it gets better. Bet in less than two days you have your sense of taste back when your sense of smell comes back.

I'm not a doctor, and I don't even play one on t.v., but.... I've read about lawsuits claiming that Zicam and similar product could permanently damage your senses of smell and taste. A Yahoo search on "Zicam lawsuit" returns lots of results. Of course, it may help you with no side effects at all. Personally, I won't take the chance.

The same thing happened to me last fall! I tried the spray just recently and the exact same thing happened. But ,yes, my taste buds did recover...it took a few days though! Feel better.
