The doctor will cauterize the nerve he/she views is causing the most problems and pain. The medical term for this procedure is Radio-Frequency Ablation. The thinking behind this being if you can eliminate one of the causes of pain, the pain will go away. Unfortunately it is not a permanent solution. Nerve regrowth occurs usually within 3 months and you will have to have the procedure done again. The plus side would be the the doctor will know exactly which nerve is the "problem" if you receive relief after the initial treatment.

The doctor cauterizes the nerve so it no longer makes the Nero connection between where the nerve is coming from and the brain. The nerves usually grown back after a period of a few months which is one of the reasons why it is often times in affective.
