I'm not sure if having a newer Windows will screw up an install of 3.1. I don't have that much 3.1 experience, but I'm looking to play around with it.

Mind you, I'm just experimenting with an old computer. I don't use anything below XP with any regularity.

It depends on the exact vintage of the 95 machine, and its history. For instance, it may have hardware that wasn't even thought of when 3.1 was the current version of Windows. If that's the case, then there WILL be problems.

On the flip side, if the machine was upgraded from DOS or Windows 3.1 to 95, then it'll probably be fine on 3.1.

3.1 may not install over Windows 95. You shouldn't have to go backwards with the operating system. Windows 95 should run whatever 3.1 does.

It might be better to use an old hard drive to install windows 3.1 if you really want to play with it. But keep your Win95 drive separate and disconnected.

I have been thinking about playing with OS/2 with an test computer myself.

I can't say for certain. I'm pretty sure that things are going to go crazy, since 95' wasn't built with any compatibility for dual-operating system booting in mind, not to mention that Windows 3.1 is a relic of an OS.

Hell, Give it a shot. It's not like you're going to lose anything important if you're running 95' anyhow.

Windows 3.1 is an earlier version of windows that windows 95. By the way, you are WAY behind the times. Like by literally decades. Get a new PC.

Boy, you ARE bored :)

If you have a fast computer, download a copy of Virtual PC 2007, and run your DOS within a VM instead.
