the doctor's office is required by law to keep medical records for ten years minimum, some states require longer. So call the doctor's office again and tell them to copy the record and send it to you in an insured letter with proof of reciept. If they insist they did not keep the record, tell them they are breaking the law and that you will report them to your state's board of health. Then do it.

Did the doctor's office only have paper copies and sent the only copies to you? Did you ask them to send the actual records or just a copy? I'm sorry you are in this position. Has he been to preschool yet? If he went to 3 year old preschool the school may have his records. I would make sure you are talking to someone competent at the doctors office and double check that they don't have the records anywhere. If they have nay shipping confirmation number you could also check with the postal system. If you don't receive them and the office doesn't have them you will have to take him in to get whichever immunizations are required up to his age (I had this happen to me this past summer). If the doctor's office is at fault, I would change doctors and make sure that whomever is in charge knows why you are switching.

That is crazy.First of all, I don't know of any Doctors office who will mail the original copy of anyone Medical Records. They HAVE to have a copy. It is the law. Unless you signed to have your son's records sent to another physician or you picked them up in person and signed for them. That would be the only way possible. Call and ask to speak with the Office Manager. If you get the same answer you tell them that you're contacting the Attorney Generals Office and you're going file a complaint with the Medical Board.

I would go to a different doctor and explain the situation. He/she will issue you a new immunization card because there is a paper you sign that indicates the transferring of records. If your current doctor does not have the papers he/she will be in trouble. Sometime clinics are too busy to send records because in my understanding there is always a record of shots, medicine or remedy the doctor gives to their patient.

What if you move out of state. Jeezus there is something wrong with that clinic.

The doctors office should always be able to produce the records. The information is in his file. My daughters pediatrician never gives me a problem. We call it a "blue card" here in Alabama. And, even if we have pay a small fee (say $5.00), we can always get the records.

Call the doctors office back and TELL them that you need another one and you will pick it up on ___________ at _____am or pm.

The doctor should retain the records for life. Have them make new copies and tell them to either fax them to you or go pick them up yourself rather than have them mailed.

I know where I live (NJ) we have a state run immunization database where any doctor can access the immunization records with your consent.

Otherwise, you son may have to repeat a lot of shots.

Get the date the package was sent. Go to the post office (UPS?) and report it as a missing package. I believe they call this putting a trace on it. You will need to have the address it was sent from, the address it was sent to and the mailing date. Good luck.

I can't imagine a Dr sending out medical records without it being certified mail. You should ask for a shipping number.

maybe you can get some sort of tests done on him to prove that he has gotten these shots. also, i'd be livid if my doctor lost my records. try and find a new doctor, they don't sound very professional to me! who the hell sends vital records through the postal service? it should have been either ups'd or fed-exed to you.

Call the doctor. They keep records. They can usually fax it to you if you need it right away.
