I have heard many atheists say that we do not need religion. I disagree. Let's face it, the average human being is really stupid. If you think all these religious wackos are crazy now, imagine how crazy they would be if they didn't have someone around telling them what to do all the time. These people are incapable of taking care of themselves and need guidance from people who are a little more intelligent then they are. Without religion, these people would be like lost little kids.

I am an atheist. I am saying that I am an atheist because some of your answers seem to be accusing me of being Christian.

I'm sure they'd just find some some other cause for their zeolotry.
Maybe, though, without religion they would actually be forced to think for themselves. Then they might learn something.

I am of the firm belief that religion shouldn't dictate. The Divine's gave us brains and free will it only makes sense that we use them. Religion is to bring to people, inside themselves. Or no religion at all if that's what you choose. Life is about being a better person then you were yesterday. Religion is just the way some people do that.

There is a strong air of truth to what you say. Some people are unable or incapable of thinking on their own, they need someone or something else to do it for them. just look at the followers of Jerry Falwell. These followers cast aside their logic, reasoning, critical thinking...heck, they cast aside their BRAIN to follow a person who is largely seen to be a bigot, a sexist, a racist and a homophobe.

If people really behaved because of religion, there would be nothing but atheists in jail. Instead we are 50X less likely than the general population to end up there. The idiots are still idiots even with religion.
The problem is religion gives them some really wacky ideas sometimes.

You don't see a lot of wackos in non-religious countries. Sweden, Japan, China. One possibility is religion helps breed wackos. When a society values irrational beliefs over logic, all kinds of bad things can happen.

To believe in some fantasy at an adult age is child-like. Most people with an ounce of common sense and critical thinking would soon realise this of course.
However if you wish to continue with your delusions then carry on, providing you're not harming others with it.

You sound like a preacher. Maybe you should start your own religion, since people are so gullible and need your guidance.

Sorry but I remain to be convinced that humanity needs liturgies, dogma, clerics and religious institutions. I think religionists need them but they provide nothing of value for the rest of us.
