basis of some Jewish kosher laws---an animal is humanely slaughtered, often by cutting the throat and letting it bleed out, hung upside down to get as much blood out as possible, then cooked until fully (well) done, no pink in the meat.

No eating raw meat, no drinking blood---which was a common practice then, and still exists today

A footnote in The Catholic Study Bible says, "Because a living being dies when it loses most of its blood, the ancients regarded blood as the seat of life, and therefore as sacred. Although in itself the prohibition against eating meat with blood in it is comparable to the ritual laws of the Mosaic code, the Jews considered it binding on all men, because it was given by God to Noah, the new ancestor of all mankind; therefore the early Christian Church retained it for a time (Acts 15:20, 29)

HI, Its really quite simple... GOD commanded them not to eat blood or anything with blood still in it. The reason for this is that the life is in the blood. The apostles told the new converts the same thing in Acts 15:28-29. This is really a matter of the heart...GOD is saying do not eat blood for the sake of eating blood as some heathen cults were doing and are still doing today. To use this scripture to try and prove eating meat is wrong is erroneous. ~GOD BLESS YOU AND LEAD YOU INTO ALL TRUTH~

God is telling him not to eat blood. The life of flesh is blood once it is stopped flowing you die.

When we eat animals we need to drain the blood as best that we can and thoroughly cook it. Meats we buy in the store have already had most of the blood drained as possible during processing. Those who kill their own food should always drain the blood from it before cooking it.

Gen. 9:2-4 Translated to modern english would read All the animals, birds, and fish will live in fear of you. They are all placed under your power. Now you can eat them, as well as green plants; I give them all to you for food. The one thing you must NOT eat is meat with the blood still in it; I forbid this because the life is in the blood.

He is telling Noah not to eat meat with blood still in it.
This can be interpreted to be:

Do not eat something that is still alive;
Do not eat something unless it is thoroughly cooked (you know how rare meat drips bloody juice) and could still have bacteria or other unhealthy stuff.

Jews tended to interpret it as being not to make any foods in which meat and blood are mixed (such as blood sausage).

This is what I found on Biblegateway.com as commentary. I think it's relevant and makes sense.

"God blesses Noah, and grants flesh for food.

The blessing of God is the cause of our doing well. On him we depend, to him we should be thankful. Let us not forget the advantage and pleasure we have from the labour of beasts, and which their flesh affords. Nor ought we to be less thankful for the security we enjoy from the savage and hurtful beasts, through the fear of man which God has fixed deep in them. We see the fulfilment of this promise every day, and on every side. This grant of the animals for food fully warrants the

use of them, but not the abuse of them by gluttony, still less by cruelty. We ought not to pain them needlessly whilst they live, nor when we take away their lives." (Ge 9:4-7)
