I agree with eleventy-six. The process would be a gradual change where religions would lose numbers and people would start waking up to the truth.

I honestly believe it's going to take a drastic measure for people to see that religions are false. Like a large-scale war..... people will think it's the end of the world but it won't be and it will break some people free of the bonds of their religious beliefs. They'd see that there isn't going to be any rapture or judgement day. There is not going to be any end of the world or a visit from their savior.... and they'll stop having faith in the lies and eventually humanity will bind together to fix the problems of the world and progress beyond the primitive superstitions they've been grasping on to.

I think the removal of religion would be a great thing for this planet, but you can't just remove it. It would have to be weened away gradually for it to have an impact.

It's foretold in the Bible that the time will come when God will put it into the minds of the leaders of the world to do away with religion. When that happens there will be caos and a great tribulation like has never happens on the earth before will happen. Then the end will come - Armageddon.

Are you suggesting that religion is necessary for people to believe in a Higher Power, respect the earth or even have values and morals?

Because lots of people are not "religious" per say and do all the above.

I should also like to point out that in many places in Europe like Germany, Sweden, Denmark and Norway where organized religion is getting unpopular and spirituality is turning into more of a personal thing, that their crime rates are WAY lower than ours.

What if politics was wiped off the planet? Or economics? Or science? The problem with scapegoats is that as we try to reason through them we receive a catharsis for our own prejudices and fears, mistaking the positive experience of the catharsis for being rational thought or justification for our own narrrowness. But thinking through scapegoats does not impart either wisdom or understanding, it simply locks us into fear-filled prejudices.

If religion is wiped from the planet, it would mean there is no God and thus, no life & no truth. So, the end of religion means the end of the world.

If it happened suddenly, then I think crime would increase. People would be distraught and many of their "reasons" for behaving would have disappeared.

If it happened gradually, chaos would not prevail, rationality would. Morals would remain intact.
