Canker sore that hurts like hell!?

I have a really big canker sore on the inside of my bottom lip, it started small about 2 weeks ago and has gotten bigger this past week. It's painful to talk, eat, drink, and kiss my hubby :( I've tried salt water and Orajel to numb the pain, but it's not going away!!!! Does anyone know of any home remedies I could try, or if they have experienced this - should I go to the doctor/dentist??

Herpes simplex is a cold sore. OUTSIDE of the mouth. If you are an RN you should know this. I get canker sores quite often, they are not contagious.

oh and dentists are for ORAL care.

I suffered from canker sores for years. I can help you! What you need to do is get rid of the toothpaste that has SLS (sodium lauryl sulfate). It's the foaming agent in most toothpastes. It is also in Plax and some mouthwashes. It is listed on the ingredients. I use Sensodyne Extra Whitening toothpaste. There are some toothpastes available in health food stores, but they are expensive.

There is also a prescription med for canker sores called Apthasol. I just started using it, and it wiped out a canker sore in one day. I read about a patch that has licorice root extract, but I have not found it for sale.

My doctor recommended trying Maalox (liquid). He said to dry off the canker sore then dab with a q-tip of maalox and hold skin to allow it to dry on there before closing your mouth then don't eat or drink for at least 30 minutes.
This actually helps my canker sores go away much quicker and reduces the pain - but I have no idea how it actually works! You can find Maalox in any grocery/drug store within the antacid/heartburn remidy area.
I have also use Kanka - it a brown goo that comes with an applicator tip and it works fairly well too if you are religious and put it on several times a day. It is not the most pleasant tasting stuff - but it does help with the pain - it numbs it for awhile. I have bought it at Target and Meijers.

Not to sound like a commercial, but there’s a canker sore drug called Aphthasol you can get from a dentist. It actually speeds up healing (everything else just numbs it while you wait it out).

If you go to your local drug store, they have great canker sore medications now over the counter. They come with a sterile q-tip applicator and you press this liquid on the sore. It will put a paste over the sore, and seal in the medication. There are a few types, and they all work wonders. The pain will go away, and the sores go away quickly.

First off, that does NOT sound like a Canker Sore. It's commonly called HERPES SIMPLEX. And yes, you should see a doctor. You should not be kissing because you can spread Herpes to your husband. Wait till the sore goes away to kiss him again. GO SEE A DOCTOR. A dentist can't help you. LOL. Dentist is for teeth. hello!

By gargling your mouth with salt water,
the mouth ulcers will heal quickly.

Ask the pharmacist for GLYOXIDE. It will cure it fast. It is not prescription and it really works.
